BCONZ does not buy or host your data. You decide what is licensed, to whom and on what terms.
Licence income for your data
You earn licence income each time your data is licensed, under the terms of your partnership agreement. Where we refer a buyer to you, our fee is paid only after the buyer pays you.
Pricing and negotiation
We quote above your floor price, report every offer to you and protect your base price.
Who can take part
- A registered organisation (a hospital, health system, imaging or diagnostic provider, laboratory, biobank or research institute) with the legal right to license its data for de-identified research and commercial use.
- Data that meets BCONZ's quality requirements for its type: for example, clinical records with demographics, diagnoses and free-text notes; medical images with the radiologist's report; or molecular results with the raw files. We assess this with you first.
- Where your data grows over time, regular updates, delivered under each licence. Longitudinal data is what researchers value most.
- Approval through your own governance or ethics process for the uses you agree to.
Taking part does not require your organisation to buy any BCONZ product or service.

How do data partners benefit financially?
You earn licence income each time your de-identified data is licensed. Depending on your agreement, you either license directly to the buyer and pay BCONZ a fee only after the buyer pays you, or BCONZ licenses on your behalf and pays you a share of the revenue.
What kinds of data can we contribute?
Clinical and EHR data, medical imaging with reports, laboratory and molecular data, and biospecimen-linked data. Requirements differ by type; a HARM readiness assessment shows what your data can support.
Do we have to buy anything from BCONZ to take part?
No. Taking part in the data collaboration programme does not require your organisation to buy any BCONZ product or service.
Who can become a BCONZ Data Partner?
Hospitals, cancer centers, laboratories, biobanks, research institutes and healthcare networks can partner with BCONZ through institution-led collaboration.
Can multiple hospitals participate?
Yes. BCONZ supports multi-institution studies that preserve each partner's governance and research priorities.
Does BCONZ require exclusive partnerships?
No. Partnerships are non-exclusive.
How are research projects evaluated?
Projects are reviewed for scientific fit, institutional governance, and available data assets before collaboration begins.
How is governance maintained?
Governance is maintained through collaborative planning, project-specific oversight and transparent engagement practices.
Can institutions decide which projects to support?
Yes. Institutions retain decision-making authority over the projects they choose to support and the research scope.
